If CALL ME LORETTA’s previous album, Crosswind,
conveyed the impression that the band was eager to leave far away and
stay aside, their new album, entitled Mountains and Rivers Between Us,
seems to be guided by distance and geographical separation. An appealing
melancholy emanates from its songs which alternate between tense crescendos,
delicate arpeggios and desperate distortions, all in all disclosing a
feeling of repressed violence.
After having garnered critical praise for Scars (debut self-released mini-lp,
now sold out), a collection of teen pains, and for the Tarnished Angels
7’, CALL ME LORETTA forsook home-recording and recorded Crosswind,
their first full-length in which melodies are submitted to emotional peaks
and valleys, an album manned by an endearing voice and introspective lyrics
that greatly participate to create a dark, idiosyncratic universe.
Since then, CALL ME LORETTA has been carrying on between Toulouse and
Paris, taking part in various projects : Kay Bozich Owens et Lynn Owens’
Lost in the Supermarkert, an indie rock cookbook, split 7’ with
Nuit Noire, unreleased songs on Dead Bees’ samplers, other bands
such as Die! Die! My Darling!, Sleep Talker, My Imaginary Loves.
Mountains and Rivers Between Us was recorded by Stephan Krieger at Amanita
studio and mixed by Julien Trimoreau (The National, B Balthazar…).
The american artist Anna Venezia has perfectly illustrated the band’s
anxieties with her cryptic sketches.

Si « Crosswind », le précédent album, était traversé par une volonté de partir, de se mettre à l’écart, « Mountains and Rivers Between Us » semble être guidé par les thèmes de l’éloignement et de la séparation. Une mélancolie attirante se dégage de ses titres, parfois agités et empreints de violence réprimée, alliant crescendos tendus, saturations désespérées et arpèges délicats.
Après des débuts remarqués avec « Scars » (cd 6 titres autoproduit désormais épuisé), collection de blessures adolescentes, et le 45 tours « Tarnished Angels », CALL ME LORETTA délaisse le home recording et enregistre « Crosswind », premier album aux mélodies tourmentées soumises à des variations d’intensité, portées par une voix troublante et des textes introspectifs, créant ainsi un univers sombre et singulier.
CALL ME LORETTA a depuis continué sa route entre Toulouse et Paris, participant à divers projets (livre de recettes « Lost in the Supermarkert, an indie rock cookbook » de Kay Bozich Owens et Lynn Owens, split 45 tours avec Nuit Noire, titres inédits figurant sur les samplers Dead Bees, autres projets musicaux - Die! Die! my Darling!, Sleep Talker, My Imaginary Loves).
« Mountains and Rivers Between Us » a été enregistré au studio Amanita par Stephan Krieger, et mixé par Julien Trimoreau (The National, B Balthazar…). Le groupe a su trouver en l'artiste américaine Anna Venezia la parfaite illustratrice de ses tourments.
